Website Pricing Frustration (Rant)
I don’t know about you but when you think “I wonder how much that costs” you immediately go onto google and search for the product in question.
Today, I was wondering about the cost of vegetable oil in bulk for use in a heating system. Don’t ask me why as that is another blog in its own right. So what has me frustrated then? The first 5 websites I went to didn’t have prices, they just told you to phone for a competitive quote. I don’t want a quote I want to know HOW MUCH!!! I use the internet to find information not phone numbers. If I wanted phone numbers I would go to a directory enquiry site.
If you have a website to advertise yourself and your products please at least give a guideline price, even if you have to put price breaks or even a message saying good discounts available for bulk. Please don’t waste my time by making me phone you. You have lost a sale immediately before we even look at your pricing and other requirements.
If you don’t display at least an indicative price I will move straight along to the next website that does. My new google search will then add +price to the search term so that your site won’t even come up on the list.
If you are worried that your competitors will look at your site and see your prices and undercut them so what? If they don’t show their pricing they won’t get my business anyway but you might. If they do show their pricing you can undercut them or offer better value in another way. You probably lose more business by not showing your prices than if you did show your prices but were more expensive than your competitor that doesn’t.
Anyway Rant over for today. If you sell something and have a website, publish your prices….
