Real world problems caused by being a programmer

by: WanderingTechy Friday, March 6th, 2009

Being a programmer requires a certain mindset and level of precision. Unfortunately these traits can sometimes cause problems in the real world. For Example;

  • I use to program in asm and got used to using hexadecimal almost exclusively. It made life a little confusing when shopping as adding up the bill before I got to the check out invariable came out wrong (in decimal)
  • To me 256 is a round number
  • I get frustrated easily at inaccuracy, when I ask a question that requires a yes/no answer and I get a full sentence that still doesn’t answer my question…
  • FO is not swearing it is the number 240 represented properly.
  • I am constantly recalculating the ETA of any journey based on a number of observable parameters. Bonus is I am usually correct.

Do you have any examples? please post a comment and share.
